    This month’s Networking Breakfast hosted Chairman Scott York of Loudoun County Board of Supervisors with Economic Development Director, Buddy Rizer. A greatly informative and detailed presentation on “Business & Investment Potential in Loudoun County” along with a Q&A session analyzed Loudoun County.

    MACC organized the third successful Networking Breakfast with members and guest businessmen & women. This month’s expert speaker wasGail Paige, a professional networker.

    She led an interactive meeting emphasizing the importance of networking. Paige, highlighted how one should go about introducing themselves to another person and covered the basics that most people seem to skip, when it comes to effective networking. Her inclusive and interactive presentation was a perfect demonstration of client business relationship.

    How To Collect Funds From Customers

    Mid-Atlantic Chamber of Commerce held the first Monthly Networking Breakfasts of 2014. Businessmen got together at Westwood Country Club over a breakfast to discuss business opportunities and ways they could expand their business networks.

    Guest speaker from TransWorld Systems, District Sales Manager Brian White gave a presentation about collecting funds from customers. Attending businessmen were given tips and cues on how to maximize efficiency when collecting funds from potentially uncooperative customers.

    Next Monthly Networking Breakfast will be on February 27, RSVP required to attend.

    Board members of Mid-Atlantic Chamber of Commerce and six member businessmen attended “ConnecTA 2014 Silicon Valley: Innovation in the Global World” on January 16-17, 2014. This business networking event was organized by California Turkish American Chamber of Commerce and took place at Hilton Santa Clara.

    Prior to the event, MACC board members and businessmen visited Twitter, Intel and San Jose Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, they met with San Jose Mayor and discussed the Silicon Valley.

    The event was aimed to share innovation experiences in the US in general, Silicon Valley in particular, with the participants from across the US, Canada and Turkey. It was also an attempt to present business opportunities involving the world’s 17th largest economy, Turkey, to the US business world. Having this agenda, the entire presentations during visits, seminars, panels and dinners were engagingly vivid in order to be able to serve the purpose.

    The event kicked off with the welcoming address from the President of CATA Chamber, Remzi Oten. Among the seminar presenters and panelists were FounderDating’s Founder and CEO, Jessica Alter; Open Garden Inc. CEO, Micha Benoliel; Jumpcam CEO, David Stewart; Coorliris Founder and CEO, Soujanya Bhumkar; General Catalyst Partners Principal, Niko Bonatsos; 212 Ventures Vice-President, Dilek Dayinlarli; Global Network Endeavor Vice-President Allen Taylor; Salesforce CTO, Kedar Doshi; Bitzer Mobile CEO, Naem Zafer; Yonja Group CEO, Dilawar Syed; senior scientist at Washington State University, Dr. Atakan Peker; Teknopark Istanbul Deputy General Manager, Ismail Ari; Hazelcast Founder and CEO, Talip Ozturk and PowerGo Inc Founder Steve Austin.

    San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Matthew Mahood, delivered his opening remarks at the dinner attended by officials from companies and institutions including Apple, Google, Twitter, HP, Facebook, Western Digital, Broadcom, Silicon Images, Skype, Applied Materials, Microsoft, AT&T, Cisco, eBay, Qualcomm, Apex Systems, Calix, California State Assembly, StubHub, Stanford Research Institute, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, Innowest Inc., Mobile Action.

    Stanford Research Institute (SRI) International’s Corporate Executive, Steve Ciesinski, who effectively covered the event’s theme “Innovation in a Global World” in his 40-minute presentation received a long round of applause from the audience.

    Throughout the seminars and company visits on January 16-17, numerous officials from companies including Apple, Google, Twitter, HP, Facebook, Western Digital, the business organization TUSKON US and Turkey-based institutions GESIAD, TABID, TACC, TTACC, TCCC, Turk Telekom, IMMIB, THY had an opportunity to come together and exchange experiences.

    Morning Coffee With Rep. Jim Moran 

    MACC Hosted Congressman Jim Moran for a Networking Breakfast with Northern Virginia businessmen and a delegation of prominent businessmen from Adana, Turkey. Congressman Moran, briefed the audience about the current economic status of the United States, as well the near future implications of the economy. He explained the affects of the political flow in Washington to Northern Virginia and foreign investment. Second part was a Q&A Session where the businessmen asked detailed questions about the future of the economy, relations between US and the Middle East particularly Turkey. More than 50 firms were represented at the breakfast including foreign firms who are visiting the DC area for potential investment opportunities.

    Mid-Atlantic Chamber of Commerce (MACC) hosted Congressman Gerry Connolly of Virginia to explain the details of the ObamaCare act and better inform business owners of the affects on their business as well as their employees. This seminar and Q&A provided community members a chance to ask questions about the details of the act. The reception brought together many DC Metropolitan businessmen/women who were interested in learning more about the act and had a chance to network with colleagues from various fields.

    Networking Iftar Dinner

    While observing the last days of Ramadan Mid-Atlantic Chamber of Commerce (MACC) hosted local business community, state legislatures and various Virginian chambers of commerce for an Iftar Dinner at the Tysons Corner Marriott. The executive director of MACC started the night of by greeting everyone and emphasized the importance of networking amongst the business community. He continued by offering assistance for those (entrepreneurs) who would seek business relations abroad and for entrepreneurs who wish to expand domestically. 

    Few of the state legislatures made their remarks during the dinner. Senator Favola, being one of the speakers shared her memories from Turkey and her experiences she has with the Turkish-American community in Virginia. She gave statistics about the ethnicities in Virginia and how its diverse population could flourish thru networking. The CEO of Fairfax County Development Dr. Gerald Gordon continued with the details of Fairfax’s business capacity. State Senator Saslaw, pointed out the beaches and skiing resort of Turkey and how they contradict the stereotypical thoughts about Turkey and the Middle East in general. He shared personal experiences during his visit and recognized Turkey as a fully developed European country. Later, Delegate Brink shared his own pictures from Turkey on the big screen. The evening was topped off with Turkish appetizers and sweets on the side of live classical Turkish music…
